DSM releases new culture for stirred premium yogurts

first_imgDSM releases new culture for stirred, premium yogurtsPosted By: News Deskon: November 06, 2018In: Dairy, Food, Industries, Ingredients, New productsPrintEmailDSM has expanded its range of cultures by introducing a new culture for the production of creamy, premium stirred yogurts with a mild taste. The new DelvoFresh YS-140 culture boasts fast fermentation time and limited post-acidification at 5°C, meaning that the culture maintains a mild taste during the entire shelf life of a yogurt. The culture can be used in both plain and flavoured stirred yogurts, as well as yogurts with added fruit.DSM claims that the culture produces creamy yogurts with a velvety mouthfeel and mild taste, and the company says this new culture has been made with the needs of consumers in mind, as more consumers are demanding yogurts which are healthy but also creamy and indulgent.Rolando Saltini, business manager for fermented milk products at DSM Food Specialties said: “Yogurt has quickly become a mainstay in the diets of many people.“Yogurt can be a healthy breakfast, a high-protein pre- or post-workout snack, and it can be an indulgent snack or dessert.“Our new DelvoFresh YS-140 is the culture in our range with the best balance between high creaminess and mild taste, delivering to the desire for more indulgence and enabling more yogurt moments in the day.”Share with your network: Tags: DSMyogurtlast_img

New DNA technique helps identify more victims of 911 attacks

first_imgSeptember 11 2001 Counterintuitively, the more a bone is pulverized, the more likely it is to produce a DNA sample. The newest step is placing the bone in a chamber containing liquid nitrogen, which makes the bone more fragile, and shaking it until it is ground to a powder.Desire praised the chief medical examiner who decided in 2001 to preserve human remains in anticipation of future advancements in identification technology, making it possible for scientists to identify victims years later.“If we did not take that step back in 2001, those remains would have continued to degrade and decompose and the DNA identifications we’re making this year probably would not be possible,” Desire said. How to Fight Ad Fatigue

first_imgHow to Fight Ad Fatigue Nickolas RekedaApril 17, 2019, 4:00 pmApril 16, 2019 While global ad spend keeps growing — powered by Asia Pacific — audiences are proving harder to engage. After being targeted with the same types of irrelevant and intrusive ads, over and over, they are suffering from fatigue with some switching ads off entirely. The issue goes beyond banners, which have gained a reputation as the key culprit for rising consumer frustration and fallen from grace in recent years. Digital ads aren’t delivering what audiences want, and that means they are struggling to boost ad impact and results. To break through, marketers must adopt new approaches focused on providing genuine value. They need to take a look at ads from the audience perspective. What’s behind the advertising tune out?Consumers have lost patience with bad ads. The rise of digital has made it easier to reach audiences via multiple channels, but also led to an avalanche of ads that often prioritizes scale over relevance. In the APAC region, for instance, four in ten (47%) consumers use an ad blocker.Mobile-specific irritation is also high. Accounting for a large chunk of media consumption — 24% worldwide — mobile has an even greater ad-blocking rate: 38% of users in APAC alone. And causes for this aversion mostly revolve around negative effect on usage; globally, 44% of ad block adopters are motivated by disruption. Clearly, the attempt to seize attention with interruptive formats, such as pop-ups and interstitials, is backfiring; especially on small screens. That’s not to mention use of generic messaging across devices, and audiences. And considering its vast share of digital ad budgets, such mobile discontent is a sizeable issue.Read More: How AI will Change the Game for Influencer MarketingDelivering what consumers really want There is a growing body of evidence to prove consumers hold experience above anything else: demanding authentic ‘human-like’ brand interaction and naming good experience as a major influence on loyalty. As a result, it’s essential for marketers to start increasing their focus on experience optimization.Part of the process is considering how ads are received. The way ads reach audiences affects progression through the marketing funnel, so consistently aligning delivery with particular ad and channel preferences is vital. But perfect placement counts for little if ad creative misses the mark. Content is a core element of digital ad experience — in fact over 60% of consumers willingly engage with content marketing. To effectively capture audience imaginations, messages need to be much more than just ads; they must tell inspiring stories that instantly engage consumers at an individual level and seamlessly match their current context, without causing disruption. And although achieving this might sound like an impossible task, there is one format that presents a viable opportunity: native.Read More: 3 Ways Mobile Technology is Changing the Brick-and-Mortar ExperienceHarnessing the potential of native ads Native isn’t a new ad phenomenon, but its true potential to bring marketers that are striving to connect with ad-weary audiences, is yet to be realized. For starters, there is inherent flexibility. Native ads are designed to automatically match their surroundings; meaning they can ensure real-time relevance by aligning with the content consumers have chosen to view.Secondly, close integration with sites has the advantage of minimizing disruption; ads blend in with content instead of obscuring it, which makes them a good fit for any screen, mobile included. But in an age where everyone is competing for attention, it’s still important for marketers to keep their strategy creative if they want to realize the full potential of native ads, and maintain momentum throughout the path to purchase. For example, video content can be used to engage consumers at the top of the marketing funnel where they are in the right mindset for discovery and more likely to interact with short, informative brand messages.Alternatively, marketers can leverage preconceptions about native. Still frequently seen as a social media tool, its scope actually extends past newsfeeds and across the online publishing landscape. Exploring the largely untrodden path of wider sites can help marketers reconnect with individuals on the road to buying with more detailed content that uses current content consumption to reignite interest. And when it comes to tipping consumers from consideration to purchase, bespoke native messages featuring testimonials and case study snippets could seal the final deal.To combat ad fatigue marketers must re-focus on quality over quantity, delivering ads that are powered by relevant, educational and engaging messaging, whatever the context. And that means they need to be native.Read More: Eye Rolls at Pre-Rolls: How to Escape the Trap of Annoying Ads APAC Regioncontent marketingdigital adsMarketing read more

With inspiration from Lifehacker’s How I work interviews, the MarTech Series Interviews follows a two part format On Marketing Technology, and This Is How I Work. The format was chosen because when we decided to start an interview series with the biggest and brightest minds in martech – we wanted to get insight into two areas … one – their ideas on marketing tech and two – insights into the philosophy and methods that make these leaders tick. Tell us about your role and journey into technology. What inspired you to start at InMoment?I don’t have a traditional software background by any stretch. I was a pre-med student who worked on Wall Street then started a software company one afternoon. (That should be comforting for anyone struggling to determine their major.) But I was fortunate enough to see a fundamental trend – technology (at that time email) was disrupting the cozy way of Wall Street business. Emails were finding their way to the cover of the Wall Street Journal and the leaders of those firms wanted to it stop. My brother and I founded Singlecast Technologies, to solve this problem and we became a pioneer in unstructured data classification. As the world went bigger digitally with instant messaging, rich media and document management, we were fortunate enough to not only see that startup acquired but stick around to steer the ship through several more acquisitions in this space. I eventually led a high-growth business unit within HP Autonomy, a $1.1 billion market leader in providing unstructured Data Applications and solutions focused on Customer Experience and Marketing Technology. What drew me to InMoment specifically was its combination of unique technology that was related to my past and a culture that is people and customer-centric. It also didn’t hurt that it is headquartered in the Silicon Slopes (Utah’s tech center), which is an ideal place to economically scale a business. There’s always a certain amount of rolling-the-dice when stepping in as CEO of any organization, but I’m happy to say InMoment leverages the best of what I’ve learned and was exactly the right choice in a very exciting industry. What is InMoment and how does it fit into a modern Marketing Technology Stack?InMoment is a Customer Experience software company that helps leading brands fundamentally improve their businesses by listening to their customers. We uniquely distill signals of what’s happening in business despite the vast noise that exists in customer data. Ultimately, we’re helping them focus on the actions that will deliver a positive impact to the bottom line, while also improving the relationships with customers and employees alike. For years, traditional sources of marketing data have been limited to static data that tells businesses the “how,” “what,” and “where” customers were buying. By bringing together these other powerful sources of data into InMoment, brands can understand the “why,” ensuring they can create and nurture more profitable relationships with the key human stakeholders. Our platform brings together intelligence about brands, customers, employees, and the market to help businesses understand and identify the critical intersection of what creates meaningful experiences that will drive revenue and increase business performance. How did you prepare the company for the latest strategic growth investment from Madison Dearborn Partners? It’s the latest self-own from a company that promised its new methods of rolling out updates and patches would result in more consumer trust and fewer issues four years ago. So far, those promises have not materialized.Microsoft’s methods of testing Windows 10 have been broken for years. After Satya Nadella took over as CEO, Microsoft made QA changes that left programmers in charge of fixing their own bugs and turned Windows 10 users into voluntary beta testers via the Windows Insider program. Unfortunately, members of the Windows Insider program rarely use the OS as a daily driver (and Microsoft does not recommend doing so). This has been the explanation for how certain flaws have shipped on an ongoing basis.Microsoft has repeatedly shipped updates with significant problems, though the number of people hit by said problems has varied. We’ve seen the company push major updates that deleted decades worth of customer files, caused blue screens when certain USB devices were plugged in, and broke various other critical system components, including third-party antivirus utilities, System Restore, Windows Media Player, and file associations. The Windows 10 May 2019 update is already blocked on PCs that use USB storage and SD cards. Microsoft has made much of the fact that its overall incidence rate has declined over time, but has not addressed user concerns about the severity of some of the bugs it has introduced. From Microsoft’s compatibility warning page.In this case, as PCMag reports via ZDNet, a bug in the Windows 10 2019 update causes the secondary Nvidia GPU on the Surface Book 2 to vanish. Since the main reason to buy a Surface Book 2 is for the unique design that allows for an Nvidia discrete GPU in a thin portable with a detachable option, this is a major flaw. It is not clear why this flaw solely affects the Surface Book 2 but not the Surface Book. It appears to have been discovered as Microsoft gears up to push the May 2019 update out to larger numbers of customers, due to the large number of people still using the April 1803 update, which officially leaves support in November of this year.As a side note: Microsoft has also identified an issue with 1903 that causes gamma ramps, color profiles, and night light settings to stop working. I’m fairly certain this explains the distinct purple tint that’s been popping up on testbeds in between driver swaps and occasionally in the middle of reboots. We didn’t mention this in the Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 8GB review or the 5700 / 5700 XT review, but I’ve talked about it with several other publications and they’ve been seeing oddities around driver updates as well. If you do happen to run into this weird purple-tint issue, it can sometimes be solved by rebooting or by reinstalling a display driver. In one case, setting a specific color profile for the monitor I was using also worked. It causes the Windows 10 blue screen that pops up when you Ctrl-Alt-Delete to be a distinct shade of purple but does not harm performance (it does, however, wreck screen colors and is generally off-putting to look at).Now Read:Microsoft Includes Telemetry Update in Security Patches, Raising Fears About Company MotivesMicrosoft Kills Automatic Registry Backups in Windows 10Bill Gates: My Greatest Mistake Ever Was Letting Microsoft Lose to Android J.K. NASA delivered the first-ever seismometer to the red planet aboard the InSight lander last year, and it’s now deployed and sending back data. Researchers from ETH Zurich have used that data to reconstruct a marsquake here on Earth, and it’s not what anyone expected. InSight touched down on Mars back in November of 2018. The robotic lander’s goal is to study the interior of Mars, which has not been possible with past missions like Curiosity. Among InSight’s instruments is the Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS). NASA successfully deployed the sensor in December of 2018 (see above) after building a model of InSight’s landing zone on Earth to rehearse the delicate process. InSight placed the instrument about 5.3 feet (1.6 meters) away, close to the maximum reach of its robotic arm. If SEIS didn’t make good contact with the ground, its data wouldn’t be useful. Luckily, the sensor works perfectly and detected its first marsquake in April 2019. In a new video, ETH Zurich scientists demonstrate the differences between seismic events on Earth, the moon, and Mars. They have a quake simulator that can reproduce a seismic event from data as you’d get from an instrument like SEIS or the seismometer deployed on the moon by Apollo 11 50 years ago. Seismic waves are affected by the composition of a planet or moon, so you’d expect different worlds to have different quakes. Indeed, quakes on Earth feature strong initial P-wave arrival followed by a stronger S-wave. To experience moonquakes, the team had to scale the signal up by one million times. Seismic waves on the moon have much smaller attenuation with strong scattering. So a moonquake could last an hour or more. For the marsquake simulation, the team had to increase the InSight signal by 10 million times. The lander has so far detected two “families” of marsquakes. There’s a high-frequency version and the low-frequency version demonstrated in the video. The lower-frequency quakes may originate farther from InSight. The waves aren’t the same as on Earth, but they’re not like the moon either. ETH Zurich researchers believe Mars will end up having seismic properties in between the two. In time, the seismic data from Mars could help us better understand its composition without cracking it open to take a peek. Now read:InSight Lander Records the Sound of Martian WindInSight Takes Its First Mars SelfieInSight Beams Back Daily Weather Reports From Mars Horror Movie Actors Who Went Way Too Far 0 Comments ‘Mindhunter’ Season 2 Images Introduce Charles Manson and More Tagged In sciencespacenasamarseth zurichseismologyseis Post a Comment 0 Commentslast_img

Pixel 4 XL Leak Confirms Big Bezel No Notch

first_imgPixel 4 XL Leak Confirms Big Bezel, No Notch By Ryan Whitwam on July 8, 2019 at 12:13 pm The Hate for ‘Captain Marvel’ May Never Stop We Finally Understand Why David Schwimmer Has Disappeared Winona Ryder Is Not Letting Anyone Forget She’s Married to Keanu The Real Reason Marvel Didn’t Bring Back Snipes For ‘Blade’ Google’s track record for Pixel phone secrecy is spotty at best. There are always some leaks here and there, and last year a crate of Pixel 3 XLs “fell off a truck” in Russia. Nothing that informative has happened yet this time around, but there are some new renders of the upcoming Pixel 4 XL. Unlike in past years, Google isn’t playing dumb with its upcoming phone launch. The company’s Made by Google Twitter account posted a shadowy picture of the phone after the last round of render leaks. That image left a lot to the imagination, but the new leaked render puts it all on display. This leak comes from OnLeaks, who has been very reliable in the past. OnLeaks gets access to leaked CAD files for phones, and then creates renders based on them. The last Pixel leak featured the smaller Pixel 4, but this time it’s the Pixel 4 XL. This one also includes the screen placement and size, whereas the last leak skipped over that part. We already know what the back of the phone will look like — that was in Google’s Twitter post. There’s a square camera module has three sensors, two of which are probably cameras. The third is most likely a time-of-flight sensor. There is no fingerprint sensor on the back. So, Google has either gone to in-display sensor technology or has ditched the fingerprint sensor in favor of 3D face unlock.  On the front, the Pixel 4 XL reportedly has a 6.25-inch screen that hugs the bottom of the device more closely than the top. There’s no notch, though. The Pixel 3 XL was roundly criticized for the massive notch that ate up about half of the status bar for no good reason — the phone still had a gigantic chin at the bottom. This year, the Pixel avoids that with asymmetrical bezels. Whether that’s an improvement is largely an aesthetic judgment. The slightly larger top bezel houses two front-facing cameras and two other small sensors of unknown nature. Some combination of cameras or other sensors could form the basis of Google’s rumored 3D face unlock system. The overall phone body measures 160.4 x 75.2 x 8.2mm. That makes it slightly larger in all dimensions than the Galaxy S10+. So, it’ll be a very big phone. We expect Google to announce the Pixel 4 and 4 XL in October — that’s when all its past Made by Google events have taken place. Now read:Google Settles Pixel Class Action Lawsuit, Will Pay Owners Up to $500Google Says Pixel 3 Sales Are Worse Than Pixel 2New Leak Shows Google Pixel 3 XL in White We Finally Know Why This Kid Returned in ‘Endgame’ 4 Comments New TV Shows That Will Absolutely Get Canceled in 2019 You Might Also LikePowered By ZergNet Facebook Twitter Linkedin Pinterest Google Plus Reddit Hacker News Flipboard Email Copy 0shares This site may earn affiliate commissions from the links on this page. 2019 Ford Ranger Midsize Pickup Review Whats New Again Is Old

first_img You Might Also LikePowered By ZergNet The cabin in the Ranger Lariat is nicely trimmed in black leather. Even the upscale fittings don’t mask that this interior feels dated compared with the much newer Ford F-150.12345678910111213141516 The Ford Ranger nameplate returns to the US after an eight-year absence. Once again Ford has a credible entry in the booming midsize pickup truck market with a powerful turbocharged engine and extensive safety technology. The ability to tow 7,500 pounds or carry 1,800 pounds of cargo means you don’t always need a Ford F-150.While the 2019 Ranger is new to the US and Canada, it has been out in the world markets since 2011. The Ranger cockpit has not aged well and some of the technology is past its sell-by date. Awesome ‘Star Trek’ Projects We Never Got To See By Bill Howard on July 2, 2019 at 7:25 am Only in the world of pickup trucks can a vehicle be 211 inches long and described as a midsize. The 2020 Ford Explorer at 199 inches is at the top end of what’s considered a midsize SUV.  The Ranger is a two-row pickup. The SuperCab version trades snug rear seat legroom for a six-foot cargo bed while the costlier SuperCrew variant (you have to pick one or the other) gets a passable back seat but the bed is only five feet long (both 44.8 inches wide inside, meaning 4×8 plywood or drywall won’t lie flat). Which is too bad, because the Ranger carries 1,560-1,860 pounds of cargo. The Ranger I tested was a premium Ranger Lariat 4×4 with the SuperCrew configuration (bigger cabin, smaller cargo bed) and off-roading configuration, coming in just under $45,000. But the cheapest Ranger XL at $25,395 has the same powerful turbo-four engine mated to a 10-speed automatic delivering 270 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is a lot for something with just 2.3 liters of displacement. That’s why Ranger has a higher base price than the competition: Every Ranger built gets the good motor. It only took a decade for Ford Sync to get good (about the same as BMW needed for iDrive): less complexity, bigger fonts, and slick features such as the audio volume indicator when you’re turning the dial.Technology of the Present and PastThat cheaper Rangers come with the Ford Sync version that dates to when Ke$ha was breaking in. It has a 4.3-inch screen. Move up to Lariat and you get Sync 3, which is one of the best infotainment interfaces available, thanks to a simpler interface and bigger fonts. One of the Sync 3 signature tricks is the big ring and number inside showing the volume or temperature you’re adjusting. The darker portion of the ring shows what fraction of max volume or temp you’re at.As standard equipment, Ford provides telematics, Sync Connect, and a Wi-Fi hotspot serving the cabin and about 50 feet outside the truck. On a jobsite, until the accessory power times out (about 20 minutes, then run back and press the ACC button again), you can get internet access for a tablet and the car’s antenna pulls in a better signal than your phone does. The left side of the steering wheel controls the instrument panel (arrow buttons) and adaptive cruise control. The ACC buttons are small to medium size and on the downward slope of the wheel. Sometimes they’re hard to punch accurately.Driver Assists: Helpful Above 10 mphThe Ranger offers Ford Co-Pilot360 technology: blind spot detection (Ford term: blind spot information system) with cross-traffic alert for truck and trailer, lane keeping system, pre-collision alert, and automatic emergency braking. It’s a $735 option on the entry XL that also includes front and rear sensing and a 150-watt AC outlet. It’s been months since I’ve tested a 2019 or 2020 vehicle whose adaptive cruise control wasn’t full-range, meaning it didn’t take you down to a full stop and then back up to speed. The Ranger’s ACC cuts out at 10 mph, making the feature unhelpful in stop-and-go traffic. The older instrument panel design of a mechanical speedometer with a 4-inch LCD on each side tried to jam too much information into too little space. Having the fuel gauge next to the ACC following-distance info, both as vertical strips, was hard on the eyes. Also missing is Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a slick knob that figures out how to make the truck back up, in the direction you want, without jackknifing.Ford Ranger in its element: bulk garden supplies section of Home Depot.Should You Buy?2019 Ford Ranger FX4 Off-Road badging. The 2019 Ford Ranger is new to the US market, but otherwise, it’s an eight-year-old vehicle. The ride is generally soft, perhaps too soft for some. The opposite may be the case if you order the $1,295 FX4 off-road package: everyday driving will be too stiff for others, and it doesn’t have the off-roading cred of the F-150’s Raptor version. The entry Ranger XL is short on features such as cruise control (not adaptive cruise control) or power door read more

Congress Seeks to Downplay Meeting of Its Karnataka Leaders with Independent Candidate

first_imgBengaluru: The Congress on Thursday tried to play down the meeting of some party leaders from Mandya with Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh, a video of which has created a flutter amid speculation that they worked against the coalition candidate in Lok Sabha polls.A video of some Congress leaders, including former ministers N Cheluvarayaswamy and P M Narendraswamy, former legislator HC Balakrishna, Ravi Ganiga and Malavalli Shivanna at a dinner reportedly hosted by Sumalatha at a private hotel on Tuesday, had surfaced on Wednesday. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil from JD(S) is the ruling coalition’s joint candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.”Let us see later what should be done, because why and for what reason they have met is not known. When they met is also not known,” State Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao said.”There is nothing in the video, they are sitting, that is all, there is nothing big in it…sitting and having food together cannot be a subject for inquiry,” he said. The video gave rise to speculation that the leaders have worked in favour of Sumalatha in Mandya, where it was a bitterly fought contest.CLP leader and coalition coordination committee chief Siddaramaiah, too, tried to question the presumption about the meeting being seen as supporting Sumalatha.”I don’t know why and for what they have met, for what reason. I will ask them. I will speak to Cheluvarayaswamy and Narendraswamy,” he said.”Just because they met, why presume they have done it (supported Sumalatha)…I don’t know, but I have to check with them,” Siddaramaiah said.Pointing out that they had gone for a meeting after elections, deputy chief minister G Parameshwara said, “If they had gone ahead of polls or during polls, we could have said things. As they have gone after the polls, let us not try to give a different meaning to it.”There would not be “any disturbance”, he said, as he expressed confidence that the coalition government would be stable and administer the state for the remaining four years.Congress leaders from Mandya had reportedly stayed away from campaigning for Nikhil, citing Kumaraswamy not seeking their support as one of the reasons. They had also allegedly expressed their strong opinion against certain statements made by the chief minister on a section of local congress leaders ahead of polls. Many of them had even extended support to Sumalatha, widow of actor-turned politician MH Ambareesh, through their supporters, who actively participated in her campaigning with Congress flags.Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Cheluvarayaswamy clarified that he, along with other Congress leaders, had remained neutral during the polls.”Party (Congress) had instructed that we should not campaign in support of the independent candidate, so we have not. We remained silent,” he said.Noting that it was a local leader’s birthday party where Sumalatha was also invited, Cheluvarayaswamy alleged that police was used to collect the CCTV recording of the event illegally.Hitting out at Cheluvarayaswamy, JDS MLA Suresh Gowda alleged that he did not stay neutral as being claimed and campaigned for Sumalatha by going to villages. On the other hand, the BJP, which supported Sumalatha in Mandya by not fielding a candidate against her, expressed confidence about her victory.”Everyone knows they were all (Cheluvarayaswamy and others) with Sumalatha during the election. As her victory is now 100% guaranteed, they have all got together for a dinner,” state BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa said.”Sumalatha’s victory is confirmed. Let’s wait and see what implications it will have on state politics once the Lok Sabha poll results are out on May 23,” he added. 2019 lok sabha electionsBJPcongressJD(S) First Published: May 2, 2019, 11:03 PM ISTlast_img

PS5 rumored to be more powerful than Xboxs Project Scarlett

first_imgMicrosoft formally introduced Project Scarlett, or at least the concept of it, during the E3 2019 Xbox briefing. Before the showcase, Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner let loose a series of tweets where he stated that developers told him that the unofficially named PlayStation 5 is stronger than the next Xbox — aka Project Scarlett.Reiner didn’t confirm or deny the prediction after the Scarlett was revealed but, to be fair, on a limited amount of information was shared during the briefing. We know Project Scarlett will be made of a custom AMD processor based on Ryzen 2, a GPU based on AMD’s Navi, and GDDR6 RAM. These components will allow the console to reach 120 frames per second and support 8K resolution, specifications we’re far from experiencing or requiring on a consistent basis. That said, is this better or worse than what we know about the PS5?So far, the components are eerily similar. The PlayStation 5, as revealed by Sony’s Mark Cerny, will utilize an AMD CPU based on the Ryzen line and a GPU based on the Navi. Xbox engineers mentioned the use of a solid-state drive that will serve as storage and virtual RAM for Project Scarlett. The PS5 will also include an SSD.The comparisons don’t stop there. Both Microsoft and Sony are preparing similar cloud-gaming options to compete with Google Stadia, which releases at the end of this year. Xbox gamers will be able to access games wherever they have an internet connection via Project xCloud but there are no pricing or technical specs available. Sony’s PlayStation Now platform is a known quantity but there’s a new initiative that aims to make the streaming platform available to use without a PlayStation console. Both consoles even seem to be embracing backward compatibility going into the next generation.Things are still pretty even but Microsoft has gotten one leg up on the competition by revealing one of the launch titles for the next Xbox: Halo Infinite. It’s no surprise that the company wants to come out of the gate with its most important flagship franchise and we’ll have to see what Sony’s first-party studios bring to the table. Editors’ Recommendations Xbox Scarlett vs. PS5: Here’s what we know so far Xbox Project Scarlett launches Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite Xbox head confirms one version of Project Scarlett in development Microsoft’s Project Scarlett: Everything we know about the next-gen game console Microsoft Project xCloud will support all current and future Xbox One gameslast_img

I have seen the future and its full of saladmaking robots

first_img Editors’ Recommendations KiwibotAutoX, in contrast, is going with full-blown vehicles capable of freeway speeds and able to hold 20 to 30 grocery bags, allowing for multiple deliveries on a single run. Eventually, the company expects these delivery vehicles to be self-driving.Restaurants may also take advantage of new technology to offload menial work. Redwood City, California-based Bear Robotics, for example, has created a robot named Penny that can serve and bus tables. “Everybody loved to see the robot in the restaurant,” Bear Robotics CEO John Ha said.Asked whether human waiters resented their robotic co-worker, Ha said they appreciated not having to hoist the heaviest trays.Asked whether human waiters resented their robotic co-worker, Ha said they appreciated not having to hoist the heaviest trays. They also found that tipping rates rose since the waiters had more time for customer service.San Carlos, California-based Dishcraft Robotics, meanwhile, is working on back-of-house robots for food prep–robotic arms and the like. (We’ve seen other robot waiters, such as the Ginger created by Nepal’s Paaila Technology.)Ginger, the robot waiter Paaila TechnologySupermarkets are also looking into automation that goes beyond the self-checkout counters already installed in many stores. Albertson’s, for example, has partnered with Waltham, Massachusetts-based Takeoff Technologies to use robots in micro-fulfillment centers that handle online orders.Following promising trials (including an ongoing one in Walla Walla, Washington), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho-based Wilkinson Baking Company is getting ready to deploy its Breadbot robotic bakers in three or the five top supermarket chains, CEO Randall Wilkinson said.A large contraption somewhat reminiscent of a Rube Goldberg creation, a Breadbot can produce six loaves of bread an hour, or about 90 a day, using ingredients loaded the night before, Wilksinson said. Customers can pick up a loaf of freshly baked bread and use another machine to slice it to order (thin, medium or thick). The BreadBot hopes to automate the task of baking bread. Wilkinson Baking CompanyWilkinson says Breadbots have the potential to bring shoppers who might otherwise purchase all their groceries online back to brick-and-mortar stores to enjoy the scent of baking bread and the ability to customize their slices. “People like to interact with their food,” he said. So…will we see these robots in restaurants and grocery stores soon? And will they eventually replace humans in the food industry? Not so fast, Wolf said. While robots are being more widely used in test cases, there’s not universal adoption yet. Restaurants might be interested in robotics for rote activities like slicing vegetables or working the fryer, but there will always be a need for humans in the industry.“In 2019 we could probably be seeing these things scaling more widely,” Wolf told Digital Trends.  “We’re certainly not in a place where restaurants can just remove humans. The consensus is we’re not there yet, nor do we want to be.” Michael Wolf, founder of The Spoon food tech blog and the Smart Kitchen Summit, watches Bear Robotics’ delivery robot at the ArticulATE food robotics event in San Francisco on April 16, 2019. The SpoonWe’ve all gotten used to robots that can clean floors and automate manufacturing. But can they take over the often tricky work of preparing, serving and delivering food? The answer, from a gaggle of entrepreneurs at the inaugural Articulate Food Robotics Summit in San Francisco earlier this week, was a resounding yes. Robots that can bus tables, toss salads, and bake bread (among other tasks) took center stage at the event, and their creators and the venture capitalists who back them believe they can revolutionize a wide range of food-related businesses. It was the first time that robotics startups mingled with large food chains and other industry players to discuss how robotics can make a difference in everything food-service related, said Michael Wolf, founder of The Spoon food tech blog and the Articulate event. The Briggo coffee robot is serving java at Dell and a few other businesses. Briggo, Inc.The most visible robots, to consumers, are likely to be those involving food prep and delivery. For example, Briggo’s robot baristas prepare coffee drinks on demand, typically in corporate environments: They are in use at Dell. You order and customize a drink using Briggo’s smartphone app, then collect it in person.A Briggo Coffee Haus can prepare about 100 drinks an hour and serve 10 customers at a time, company founder and chief technical officer Chas Studor told the conference. But coffee addicts beware: The device can collect a lot of data about users’ coffee habits. Dead BLU Life One X2 got you down Here have a Life

first_imgBefore the scandals hit, BLU Products has been most known for offering unlocked and mildly decent mid-range phones for very low prices. As such, the Life One X2 isn’t exactly a huge game changer. Still, no matter how not noteworthy it is, you’re not supposed to brick your own product.Of course, mistakes have been made in the past, and parents always teach their kids to make amends when you make one. BLU, however, has not just failed to make amends to date but has even grown silent after a generic “we’re looking into it” message. Then again, after being flooded with complaints and bad press like this one, it probably can’t help but stick its fingers in its ears.To add insult to injury, it seems that it’s business as usual over at HQ, with the company continuing to put out ads for its football/soccer team endorsement. Of course, the Life One X2 isn’t its only product and it has to push forward with the others. Naturally, Life One X2 owners aren’t buying it.And they probably won’t buy the new Life One X3 either. It’s one thing to launch a new phone in the middle of a disaster. But it’s a completely new level of low when that new phone is the successor of the phone that was just bricked. It’s almost as if BLU is telling Life One X2 owners to upgrade but at their expense. Fortunately, the Life One X3 doesn’t look like much of an upgrade on paper anyway. The mid-range phone is powered by a 1.3 GHz octa-core MediaTek processor with 3 GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel f/2.2 camera, and a 5,000 mAh battery. Except for the battery, it is almost a downgrade from the highest configuration of the Life One X2 with 4 GB of RAM. No price has been set yet, but expect it to be low. This, however, might be one of the cases where you get what you pay for.SOURCE: BLU Story TimelineBLU pits MediaTek-powered Life One X against Moto GBLU Life One X2 mixes 4GB RAM, fingerprint sensor, budget priceBLU bricks phones, ignores complaints [UPDATE]BLU goes silent BLU Products, one of the few phone brands that call the US its home, seems to be riding one controversy after another. Last year, and again this year, it was involved in a security and privacy scandal, thanks to Chinese adware maker AdUps, that even got US authorities involved. Last week, the Florida-based company received a flood of complaints after pushing out an update that practically bricked their Life One X2. After going silent, the company has made an ill-timed launch of a new phone that is meant to succeed the one it just killed.last_img
